Drinking & Driving

The Traffic Unit serves as the catalyst for the department’s zero tolerance of DUI and underage drinking. This is built on the simple premise that alcohol and driving don’t mix. Taking a proactive approach to DUI enforcement, the department promotes the training of officers, education of the general public, direct enforcement, and the deterrence of future offenders.

The Village of Buffalo Grove has instituted an ordinance, which provides that any person arrested for DUI or related driving offense (suspended or revoked driver’s license due to DUI) will have the vehicle they were driving at the time of the offense seized by the Police Department and towed at the owner’s expense. An administrative penalty of $500 must be paid to the village and towing related costs must be paid to the tow company before the owner may retrieve the vehicle.
