Weiland Road- Prairie Road / Lake Cook Road Phase 2 Design Project - September 2016 - Update

The Lake County Division of Transportation and the Cook County Highway Department are completing the Phase 2 Design for the improvements for Weiland Road and Prairie Road from Lake Cook Road to IL Route 22 in Lake County and for Lake Cook Road from Buffalo Grove Road to Hastings Drive in Cook County.  The Phase 2 Design includes the engineering design of both projects and any property acquisition that is needed for the projects.  The Village will continue to work closely with both counties and will help coordinate any design related issues.  The Cook County Highway Department has projected the Lake Cook Road widening project to start in 2018 and be completed in 2019.  The Lake County Department of Transportation has currently planned the first phase of the Weiland Road Widening from Lake Cook Road to Deerfield Parkway to begin in 2018.  Please contact the Lake County DOT for additional questions for Weiland Road.

The Environmental Assessment for the Weiland Road/Lake Cook Road Phase I Study has been signed by the Illinois Department of Transportation and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). A copy of that report is available here. This signifies that these two agencies agree that the purpose and need for the project has been clearly identified and the impacts from the alternatives including the Preferred Alternative have been evaluated with all of the appropriate agencies.  This approval allows for the document to be released to the public for comment with a public hearing.  At the public hearing the Preferred Alternative will be presented for public comments.

Full public notice including legal notices, mailings, and brochures for the public meeting will now begin.

After the public hearing the comments will be sent to the FHWA with the anticipation that they will issue a Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) indicating that the Preferred Alternative will not have a significant effect on the environment which will indicate completion of the Phase I Engineering environmental studies.
