Home maintenance is a concern for many seniors. To address the concern, the Northwest Suburban Housing Collaborative, which includes the Village of Buffalo Grove, has partnered with the North West Housing Partnership (NWHP) to create the Senior Handyman Program for residents aged 65 and older. Click here for details of the program.
Residents from Buffalo Grove, Arlington Heights, Mount Prospect, Palatine and Rolling Meadows are eligible. The new program discounts the labor cost for handyman services that are provided by a handyman who has been screened by the program. The hourly fee paid by the senior customer ranges from $10 - $30 an hour depending on income.
The program pays the balance due to the handyman from grant funds received by the Collaborative. Homeowners are responsible for the cost of materials for the repairs. There is no maximum income limit. Examples of eligible work include: installation of grab bars, soffit repair, toilet repair, door locks, clearing drains, installing ceiling fans, gutter cleaning, screen repair, hanging shelves, pictures and curtains. Limited to 2 hours of service. No emergency repairs.
