Rankings are published by Neighborhood Scout, and determined by population and the rate of individual crime types per 1,000 residents.
Buffalo Grove, Illinois – The Village of Buffalo Grove was ranked the 18th safest city across the U.S., according to a recent report from Neighborhood Scout. The group creates an annual rating that lists the top 100 safest cities.
The ratings are determined from data provided by 18,000 law enforcement agencies around the country, and take into account the population of the community and the incidence of a variety of crimes per 1,000 residents. The types of crimes include burglary, larceny-theft, motor vehicle theft, murder, rape, armed robbery and aggravated assault.
Buffalo Grove was one of only three Illinois communities that made the top 20.
“We are very fortunate that Buffalo Grove has consistently been rated as one of the safest communities to live in - not only throughout the state but across the country as well,” said Village Manager Dane Bragg. “This recognition is a testament to the cooperative efforts of law enforcement, our strong educational system and our community as a whole.”
Most recently, the Village was rated as the second safest Illinois city with a population of 30,000 or more by Value Penguin http://www.safewise.com/blog/safest-cities-illinois-2015/.
