Through vetted Public Health Information Sharing Program members, law enforcement, and social media, the Statewide Terrorism & Intelligence Center (STIC) has become aware of a potential scam going around central Illinois.

STIC believes that calls are being made from spoofed numbers (displayed numbers are a different number than the actual one that is calling) to doctors’ offices, clinics, and personal numbers stating that a loved one has been in an accident.

The caller claims to be with an ambulance service and requests that the victim meet the ambulance service at a certain location or that money is needed for care.

In addition to requesting the victim to meet at a location or provide money for care, the caller also might ask for personal information such as their date of birth, address, social security number, etc.

If you receive one of these calls please call local law enforcement and report it.
