The recognition is a result of the Village having a forestry department, a tree-care ordinance, an annual forestry budget and yearly observance of Arbor Day.
The Village of Buffalo Grove recently earned recognition as a 2016 Tree City USA from the Arbor Day Foundation.
This acknowledgment is a direct result of the Village’s consistent policies that make the planting and care of trees a priority.
The Tree City USA program has four requirements; that the recipient has either a tree board or department, a tree-care ordinance, an annual community forestry budget of at least $2 per capita and an Arbor Day observance and proclamation on a yearly basis.
“From an aesthetic and environmental standpoint, trees play a vital role in the everyday lives of Buffalo Grove residents and businesses,” said Mike Reynolds, Director of Public Works. “To that end, the Village has made urban forestry management a priority for the past 29 years.”
Trees are also a vital addition to the public infrastructure and provide numerous economic, social and environmental benefits.
The Village of Buffalo Grove will be presented with the Tree City USA flag by the Arbor Day Foundation and will recognize the Tree City USA designation during its Arbor Day observance on Friday, April 28, 2017.
