The Buffalo Grove Police Department conducted heightened enforcement during Distracted Driver Awareness Week from April 22-28, reminding motorists to put their cell phones down and focus on driving, during this statewide mobilization.
Buffalo Grove Police piloted several directed enforcement zones aimed specifically at distracted drivers. During the week-long mobilization effort, Buffalo Grove Police issued:
• Forty-four use of electronic communication device citations
• Eight seat belt citations
• Five unlicensed and suspended/revoked license arrests
• Seven uninsured motorist citations
• 3 child restraint citations
Though the awareness week may be over in Buffalo Grove, police are reminding residents that there are no excuses to make a phone call or to text while driving a vehicle.
“Our officers are out year-round. If you are observed using any type of electronic communication device while driving your car, you will be cited for the violation,” said Sergeant Michelle Kondrat.
