THREE-VEHICLE CRASH OCCURS NEAR BUFFALO GROVE AFTER DOMESTIC DISTURBANCE

At approximately 10:20 a.m. on Saturday, May 13, 2017, Buffalo Grove Police received several reports of gunshots heard in the area of a residence on Auburn Lane in Buffalo Grove.

One complainant advised they heard screaming and the sound of a gunshot. Another individual stated they heard several loud pops and glass breaking.

Witnesses reported seeing a male subject running from the house and entering a red sedan. According to witnesses, the vehicle then left the area in an unknown direction. The homeowner reported to police the subject was known to her daughter.

Minutes later, a Buffalo Grove police officer observed a red Toyota Corolla driving southbound on Arlington Heights Road, approaching Lake Cook Road. The officer activated his emergency lights and siren, as the vehicle proceeded westbound on Lake Cook Road. After the vehicle passed Wilke Road, it became involved in a three-vehicle crash. Three subjects, including the alleged offender, were transported to area hospitals by ambulance.

The alleged offender involved in the domestic disturbance was transported to Northwest Community Hospital (NCH), where he remains in serious condition. The driver of the second involved vehicle was also transported to NCH, and the driver of the third involved vehicle was taken to Good Shepard Hospital. Both drivers have non-life-threatening injuries.

Officers canvassed the Auburn Lane area and after conducting interviews, learned that there is an alleged ongoing domestic situation between the alleged offender and the homeowner’s daughter.

The backyard patio door was allegedly smashed by the offender, but no gun was seen by the homeowners. A gun has not been located at this time. Both the mother and daughter received minor cuts from the breaking glass, but refused medical treatment.

The Cook County Sheriff’s Department is handling the crash investigation due to it occurring in unincorporated Cook County. Buffalo Grove police continue to investigate this incident. Updates will be provided to the news media when they become available.
