Four occupants transported to hospital with non-life-threatening smoke inhalation.
At approximately 6:20 a.m., the Buffalo Grove Fire Department (BGFD) was dispatched for a reported structure fire in the 600 block of Hickory Drive in Buffalo Grove. Upon arrival, the first units observed heavy smoke, which was visible from the second floor at the rear of the building. All four of the home's occupants had exited the structure.
Buffalo Grove Engine 26 and Arlington Heights Engine 4 were the first companies to arrive on scene, and successfully extinguished the fire, which was contained in a second-floor bedroom. Buffalo Grove Tower 25 and Quint 27 completed a search of the residence shortly thereafter. A total of six neighboring departments assisted the BGFD on the scene in addition to Arlington Heights and included Palatine, Long Grove, Prospect Heights, Lincolnshire and Barrington. Additionally, Barrington-Countryside, Park Ridge, Wauconda and Grayslake assisted in providing back up equipment at BGFD Stations.
All four of the occupants that had exited the home prior to the companies' arrival did complain of difficulty breathing approximately 45 minutes after the initial dispatch. All were transported to Northwest Community Hospital in stable condition for smoke inhalation. A firefighter also sustained a minor injury, but was treated at the scene and did not require transport to the hospital.
