The accident involved an entrapment, sent 10 people to area hospitals and occurred after 10:30 p.m. at Lake Cook and Old McHenry Roads. One person was arrested.
The Buffalo Grove Fire Department responded to a multi-vehicle crash that occurred just after 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 11, 2018 at the intersection of Lake Cook Road and Old McHenry Road.
When police and firefighters arrived at the scene, they encountered multiple individuals with injuries who were passengers in one of four vehicles involved in the accident. One patient had to be extricated from a vehicle prior to being transported to the hospital.
Police arrested Saul Hernandez-Rivera, 39, of the 3200 block of S. Pulaski Road in Chicago, who was determined to have caused the accident. Hernandez-Rivera was charged with driving on a suspended license, disobeying a traffic signal (red light) and failure to wear a seatbelt.
In all, 10 patients were treated and transported to area hospitals, including Northwest Community, Glenbrook, Good Shepherd and Highland Park Hospitals, as well as to Alexian Brothers Medical Center.
The conditions of the multiple patients are not available at this time.
Assistance at the scene was provided by Wheeling, Lake Zurich, Arlington Heights, Palatine, Park Ridge, Wauconda, and Knollwood Fire Departments, in addition to Long Grove, Lincolnshire/Riverwoods, Barrington Countryside, Nunda Rural, Prospect Heights and Palatine Rural Fire Protection Districts.
