CFL / Thermometer Recycling
Compact Fluorescent Lightbulb

The Buffalo Grove Health Department along with the Solid Waste Agency of Northern Cook County (SWANCC) is sponsoring a Compact Fluorescent Lightbulb (CFL) recycling program. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency recommends the use of CFL’s in order to minimize energy use and help provide for a cleaner environment.

Generally, each CFL contains a small amount (5 mg) of mercury. The CFL recycling program was designed to help ensure the environmentally safe recycling of these bulbs and to remove this potential mercury contamination from the waste stream.

Mercury Thermometer Exchange

The Buffalo Grove Health Department along with the Solid Waste Agency of Northern Cook County (SWANCC) is sponsoring a Mercury Thermometer Exchange/Recycling Program. Bring in your mercury containing thermometers, thermostats and wall switches and receive a mercury-free thermometer in exchange.

The Thermometer Exchange/Recycling Program can help to promote the environmentally safe recycling of these mercury containing products and to remove this potential mercury contamination from the waste stream.
