Real Estate Signs
Location and Placement of Real Estate Signs
In an effort to maintain the aesthetic appeal of our community and manage the number of posted signs, the Village of Buffalo Grove limits the placement and duration of real estate signs.

Sign Code, Section 14.36.010.N
Pursuant to Sign Code, Section 14.36.010.N which states that one real estate sign on any lot or parcel is legal as long as:
  • Such sign is located entirely within the property to which the sign applies
  • Is not directly illuminated
  • Does not exceed six square feet in area
  • Is removed within seven days after the purchase agreements or if rental or lease has been entered into

Real estate open house signs are legal, on any lot or parcel as long as: 
  • Each sign is not directly illuminated and does not exceed six square feet in area
  • Such sign is only allowed on Saturdays and Sundays between the hours of 12:00 noon to 6:00 p.m. and on Wednesdays between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.

This includes real estate signs in subdivision one of this subsection. This section does not include public areas.The Village of Buffalo Grove limits the placement and duration of signs on public property and in the public right of way.

Sign Code, Section 14.40.070
A. No sign shall be permitted which is placed on any of the following:
  • Crosswalk
  • Curb
  • Curbstone
  • Sidewalk
  • Post
  • Pole
  • Stake
  • Electrolier Hydrant
  • Bridge
  • Tree
  • Surfaces located on public property
  • Surfaces over or across any street or public thoroughfare except as authorized in subsection of this page

B. Signs shall be allowed in the public areas designated in subsection A of this section so long as they meet the following requirements:
  • Non-illuminated, single or double-faced ground sign
  • Not exceeding the height of 36 inches above the top of the curb
  • Not exceeding six square feet in area
  • Only allowed on Sundays between the hours of 12:00 noon to 6:00 p.m.
