Driveways and Aprons
A permit is required to construct, replace, or extend a driveway or apron. Although the apron is within the right of way (ROW), construction and maintenance of the apron is the responsibility of the property owner.

A driveway apron is a permitted access to a property owners driveway through the public right-of-way. The right-of-way is owned by the Village of Buffalo Grove on Village streets and connects to the public roadway extending from the curb to the far edge of the sidewalk, or to the property line.
The maintenance and replacement of the apron is the homeowners responsibility unless disturbed through a Village project.
You can apply for a permit at Village Hall located at 50 Raupp Blvd.
Typically permits are issued within one week. However, if the work is done in the right-of-way it may take longer as Engineering will review also.
The permit fee is $100.00.
- A completed permit application including the name, address, telephone number of the contractor installing the driveway and/or apron and the valuation of the project.
- Two copies of the plat of survey noting the location and dimensions of the existing as well as the proposed driveway and/or apron (width at the garage, width at both sides of the public sidewalk, width at the street/curb and the dimensions of any expansion to the existing driveway and the length of all portions). The location of any street light, fire hydrant, B-Box and trees in the parkway must also be noted with the distance to the edge of the new apron.
The Village may contract for repairs to an apron during a street improvement project. Sometimes the repair may involve a quarter, half, or full apron while most won't need any replacement. This is done only in the instance an apron does not meet the minimal requirement, while the street is repaired, and it is brought up to meet minimal standards.
