Village Continues Safety Planning

Village Continues Safety Planning as COVID-19 Cases Increase
Posted on 03/18/2020
The Village of Buffalo Grove continues to move forward with a range of strategic efforts to support public safety, education and emergency planning, as the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases continues to climb across the state. Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker announced the launch of a new website today that is dedicated to COVID-19 at coronavirus.illinois.gov.

The Village’s executive leadership team meets daily to review the latest information available, in order to make operational changes as needed. The Village’s main goal is to ensure the continuity of public safety services as information continues to change relating to COVID-19.

“Our team is working around the clock to be as prepared as possible for the safety and welfare of our entire community,” said Village Manager Dane Bragg. “I encourage residents to follow the advice of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to stay home and avoid unnecessary trips.”

The Village strongly encourages hair and nail salons, as well as massage parlors to consider temporarily closing their doors to slow down the spread of COVID-19. These facilities provide services where patrons are in close contact with each other, which does not follow the CDC recommendation to maintain social distance.

Due to a considerable number of concerns fielded by Village staff regarding water safety, residents can be reassured that the Village water supply is safe, and there is no need to boil or drink bottled water. Public Works employees continue to take all measures to protect the public water supply.

Waste Management will continue trash and recycling collection as normal, but have announced they have suspended call center availability to keep their employees safe. Residents are advised to visit wm.com/alerts for the latest updates, and to register for text and email alerts, or chat with their virtual assistant
The Police Department has temporarily lifted the overnight parking ban between 2:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. due to the growing number of people who are staying home or caring for relatives.

An FAQ has been added to the Village website at vbg.org/covid19 which includes information about health and public safety, economic assistance for individuals and businesses, Village services, and other resources to provide individuals with answers to a range of questions related to COVID-19.

Residents are encouraged to continue to support restaurants by ordering carryout/curbside pickup or delivery. Please consider calling ahead to make sure these services are available. A list of Buffalo Grove restaurants can be found at vbg.org/bgrestaurants.

The Village remains focused on continuing to deliver essential services to residents and all stakeholders, as well as be prepared for yet unknown developments relating to COVID-19. Regular updates can be found on the Village’s social media pages, which can be found here vbg.org/socialmedia. Information and updates will also be posted on the website at vbg.org.
