Police Department Hosts Successful Drug Take Back Event

The Buffalo Grove Police Department, in conjunction with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), collected more than 118 pounds of medication from area residents during the October 23 Drug Take Back event. All medications collected were turned over to the DEA for proper destruction.

When prescription drugs end up in the wrong hands, the results can be deadly. Drugs prescribed to a certain person should be taken only by that person in accordance with the directions given. If prescriptions are taken incorrectly, the person ingesting the substance runs the risk of overdose, possible addiction and other serious health issues. In addition, improperly disposed medications can become environmental hazards, ending up in landfills or water systems.

The Police Department hosts Drug Take Back events each year in April and October. Free, lockable medication containers and free destruction pouches can also be picked up year-round in the department’s lobby, 46 Raupp Boulevard, where a drug collection box is also available.
