Updated Press Release: Police Officer-Involved Shooting

UPDATE

Update on Thursday, December 2, 2021 at 4:42 p.m.
Buffalo Grove, IL - The Buffalo Grove Police Department is releasing the name of the deceased person associated with the officer-involved shooting that occurred at approximately 12:30 a.m. today, Thursday, December 2, 2021.

The individual has been identified as Brian Christopher Howard, with a date of birth of 8/19/1996. While Howard’s registered home address is in Elgin, Illinois, he had been residing with family in Buffalo Grove. 

The investigation into this incident is ongoing. Any additional updates will be published on the Village’s website at vbg.org when they become available.

Thursday, December 2, 2021 at 10:39 a.m.
Buffalo Grove, IL – On December 2, 2021, at approximately 12:30 a.m., Buffalo Grove Police officers were dispatched to a call regarding a man with a gun in a park near Radcliff Road and Boxwood Lane in Buffalo Grove.  The responding officers were informed by dispatch that the person had guns and was firing rounds.  

As the first officers arrived on scene, a man began to walk towards their vehicles holding a handgun in each hand. The individual fired rounds from both of his weapons as he continued walking towards the police. The individual ignored officer’s continued commands to stop. At this time, one officer fired several rounds from his handgun.  Those shots did not strike the individual, and a second officer fired shots, which did strike the individual. 

The officers immediately provided medical aid to the individual until the paramedics arrived. Paramedics continued to attempt life-saving efforts, but the individual succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

The two officers involved in the incident were transported to the hospital to be evaluated.

The Lake County Major Crimes Task Force will be conducting the investigation of the incident.
