Garage Fire Damages Two Single-Family Homes Early New Year's Day

At 1:41 a.m. Saturday, January 1, 2022, the Buffalo Grove Fire Department (BGFD) was dispatched to 405 Glendale Road in Buffalo Grove for a reported house fire. Fire units arrived on the scene at 1:47 a.m. and saw heavy flames coming from the attached garage.

Firefighters were met by a resident of the home upon arrival who advised them that all of the home’s occupants had been safely evacuated. Firefighters entered, located the fire which had spread from the garage into the home, and extinguished it within 30 minutes of arriving on the scene.

There were no civilian injuries due to this incident. Firefighters assisted in rescuing the family’s cat from inside the residence.
The house sustained smoke and water damages and is currently uninhabitable. The fire severely damaged the attached garage and three vehicles; two that were located inside the garage and a third that was parked in the driveway. A second, unoccupied home next door to the east sustained moderate damage to its detached garage and siding from the heat and flames. Damage estimates are not currently available. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but it is not considered suspicious.
