Memorial Day ´Click It or Ticket' Campaign Results Now Available

The Police Department announced today that it issued 106 citations during the recent Memorial Day 'Click It or Ticket' enforcement period. During that time, 51 citations for seat belt violations were issued, in addition to one child car seat, 19 speeding, 14 distracted driving, and 19 other traffic citations. There were also two DUI arrests and one fugitive apprehension.

“Through the Memorial Day enforcement campaign, officers helped make Illinois roads safer and spread the word that seat belts and child safety restraints save lives,” said Sergeant Frank Horbus.

While Illinois’ 2021 seat belt compliance rate was 93.5-percent, unbelted occupants still account for over half of those killed in traffic crashes. The 'Click It or Ticket' campaign aims to change the behaviors of the millions of people who still don’t buckle up. Thousands of lives could be saved each year if every vehicle occupant was properly restrained when traveling.

The Illinois 'Click It or Ticket' campaign is administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation with federal highway safety funds.
