Village of Buffalo Grove Announces New Communications and Community Engagement Department

Village Manager Dane Bragg has announced the creation of the Communication and Community Engagement Department, and the appointment of Molly Gillespie as its director. This new department will centralize Village-wide communications, support all departments and identify opportunities to leverage community engagement.

“We are excited about this new department and how it will enhance our services for Buffalo Grove residents and businesses,” said Village Manager Bragg. “Ms. Gillespie’s unique combination of skills and knowledge base makes her the ideal candidate to develop communication strategies and establish key relationships to grow the Village’s connection with the public and its partners.”

Gillespie was tapped to lead the department after 12 years in public service, including eight years serving in progressive communications roles with the City of Elgin. She has been involved with a wide variety of public service projects and has spearheaded several strategic communications campaigns. Gillespie has been instrumental in developing a brand and social media presence for the City of Elgin, while maintaining public relations and overseeing marketing efforts. Her work in social media growth and engagement has earned her the Marguerite Henry Award for Communication/Technology in 2016.

Gillespie’s experience in communications and community engagement, specifically involving special events, municipal programs, weather events, and emergency situations, will be of great value to the Buffalo Grove community. Gillespie holds a Bachelor of Science in tourism from Colorado State University.

“I am honored for the opportunity to serve Buffalo Grove and look forward to building relationships throughout the community,” said Gillespie. “I’m eager to get started and build upon the strong foundation that exists already with the Village’s communications and engagement efforts.”

The Communications and Community Engagement program was approved as part of the 2022 Adopted Budget, consisting of two full-time positions, including a director and coordinator. The new department will oversee all communications including news releases, e-newsletters, social media, and newsletters while exploring other opportunities to engage with the community.
