Lightning Strike Suspected in Fire that Displaces Family

On Saturday July 23 at approximately 4:40 a.m., when intense storms were hitting the northwest suburbs with rain, high winds and lightning, the Buffalo Grove Fire Department was dispatched to a reported structure fire at 17 River Oaks Court East.

On arrival, fire companies encountered fire showing from the roof of the 2-story home. Firefighters aggressively entered the home and worked to extinguish the fire that was burning in the attic. It was quickly brought under control, with the assistance of several neighboring fire departments.

No injuries were reported, but the home is currently uninhabitable, and the family living there has been displaced. While lightening is suspected as the cause, the incident remains under investigation.
