Community Events Planned during Buffalo Grove Days to support Highland Park

In lieu of a parade at this year’s Buffalo Grove Days, the Village has planned several alternative events to bring the community together and support Highland Park. Events will include a community blood drive, a family fun walk and a pancake breakfast.

“A parade just didn’t feel right following the tragedy in Highland Park. There was a lot to consider in planning this year’s event including our various stakeholders—volunteers, parade units and residents along the parade route,” said Mike Skibbe, staff liaison to the Buffalo Grove Days Committee. “Ultimately, we have found a way to keep the community spirit alive while standing in solidarity with our neighbors.”

A community blood drive, sponsored by Vitalant, will be held on Saturday, September 3 from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Alcott Center, located at 530 Bernard Drive.

Sunday morning, September 4, will begin with a family fun walk at 8 a.m. starting at the north end of Willow Stream Park (parking is available in the pool parking lots off Farrington Drive). The walk will end at Mike Rylko Community Park, located at 1000 N. Buffalo Grove Road, where the Rotary Club of Buffalo Grove will host a pancake breakfast from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m.

All events are free to attend. Participants will have the opportunity to support victims of the July 4 Highland Park tragedy via donations to the Highland Park Community Foundation's July 4 fund.
