Human Resources Services
The Human Resources department provides general personnel management oversight to all Village departments and is responsible for five major functions: legal, recruitment and selection, benefits administration, risk management, and training and organizational development. Additionally, the Human Resources department plays an integral role in the Village of Buffalo Grove’s strategic planning and policy development initiatives.

The Village offers a competitive wage. The classification and compensation program revolves around the theme of pay for performance. The classifications and the subsequent salaries are adjusted annually for general wage adjustments (COLA), and evaluated every three years against external market data.
The broker for Medical, Dental, and Vision for the Village is through the Intergovernmental Personnel Benefits Cooperative (IPBC).
The Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF) is the pension system for all civilian employees who work over 1000 hours per year. Employees contribute 4.5% of earnings annually in addition to the Village's contribution.

Flexible Spending offers Village employees a before tax salary reduction to pay for their dependent's health and dental premiums, day care expenses or uncovered medial expenses.
Life insurance is provided by the Village equal to one times (1X) the employees base salary for all regular full time employees. Supplemental coverage is also available for employees who meet certain established criteria.
Subject to fund availability, employees may be eligible for up to 100% of tuition for pre-approved, job-related coursework. Employees are also given the opportunity to participate in on-site training for personal and professional growth. Some positions may have opportunities to attend conferences, workshops or other on-going professional development.
The Village’s Employee Assistance Program (EAP) provides professional counseling services and specialty referral for employees and dependents. Bensinger, DuPont & Associates is the current EAP provider for the Village. Services include meeting with employees or dependents to determine the proper course of treatment, providing some counseling services free of charge, or referring the client to an appropriate outside counselor. The Village’s medical insurance plans may pay for a portion of counseling services.
The Village currently works with PUSH Wellness. The program consists of an annual assessment including weight, blood pressure, cholesterol, nicotine uses and cardiovascular fitness. Participants of the program have the potential to earn up to $40 a month depending on the score awarded.
As part of it’s commitment to recognize its employees, the Village sponsors several employee recognition programs and events including an employee award program, several annual employee appreciation events and longevity of service awards.
