Emergency Management
The Village maintains an emergency management agency to provide response to natural or man-made disasters in our community. Working throughout the year and behind the scenes, EMA volunteers prepare for worst case scenario events, network with other EMA local and regional agencies, and provide support services to other events throughout the Chicagoland area.

While the Village has an Emergency Operations Plan, each home should maintain its own emergency plans and have access to emergency kits stocked with basic disaster supplies such as water, food, and a weather radio. For a full list of items suggested for an at-home kit, click here.
The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program was created by the Federal Emergency Management Agency in 1993 as a means to train local volunteers to respond safely, responsibly and effectively to emergency situations. CERT training is designed to cover the following topics:
In addition to being trained and equipped for disasters, Buffalo Grove CERT members that have taken additional First Aid and CPR courses also assist the Village by staffing First Aid stations at special events. The Village has made its CERT program an essential part of its emergency response plan and is constantly looking for additional ways to utilize this valuable resource.

MobileComm III is a specially built vehicle that operates as a mobile command center for large scale community events or disasters. MobileComm contains more than 20 radios, a 56' pneumatic mast with a series of cameras that can be used to monitor incidents, phone systems, a full office with computers, fax, copier, and internet access, and video conferencing capabilities. When deployed, it is operated primarily by volunteers with ham radio expertise. MobileComm III is an invaluable resource in the case of a widespread emergency for the Village of Buffalo Grove and the region as a whole.
