Patrol Services

Patrol is the largest and most visible part of the Police Department. Officers assigned to patrol work three shifts, providing 24 hours of patrol coverage, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

Officers assigned to patrol are the first responders to calls for service, which may include things such as: vehicle crashes, domestic disputes, medical emergencies, animal complaints and more.

Patrol officers also spend time conducting traffic stops, preliminary investigations, monitoring problem areas, performing vacation watch checks and responding to burglar alarms.

Many officers in the patrol division are specially trained in different areas. Firearms instructors, field training officers, defensive tactics instructors, evidence technicians, and Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) members are just some of the specialty positions held within the different shifts.

If you are requesting a police officer to your location, the best and most expedient way to do so is to call 9-1-1, regardless of call type. General and non-emergent questions can be directed to the police non-emergency line at (847) 459-2560, however, calling the non-emergency line to request police services lengthens the time it will take an officer to reach you.
