Buffalo Grove first responders help local children shop for the holidays

The holiday spirit was alive this past weekend as Buffalo Grove Police and Fire Departments teamed up for their seventh annual “Shopping with Heroes” event. On Saturday, December 2, police officers and firefighters assisted 11 deserving children in shopping for gifts for themselves, their families and loved ones at the local Target, located at 1400 W. Lake Cook Road in Wheeling.1 - Copy

The volunteer police officers and firefighters spent time shopping with the youth, encouraging the selection of both educational items and their desired gifts. Following, they used the reminder of the gift cards to shop for the children’s families and loved ones. The children then gathered at the Police Department for gift wrapping, pizza and treats.

This event was possible thanks to donations from the Buffalo Grove Police Department, Target, the Northwest Suburban Interfaith Council and other generous donors.

“Our first responders look forward to this event every year,” said Police Chief Brian Budds. “We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to the many volunteers who helped make the holidays special for kids in our community and their families.”
