Buffalo Grove Firefighters respond to fire at vacant home

At approximately 10:30 p.m. Wednesday evening, February 21, the Buffalo Grove Fire Department was dispatched for a reported fire in the area of Silver Linden Lane. Once fire companies were enroute, flames were visible from a distance, and firefighters were redirected to the correct location, 2112 Brandywyn Lane.

Upon arrival, firefighters observed the entire second floor of the two-story vacant house fully engulfed with fire, with heat impacting the neighboring houses on both sides. Crews simultaneously began extinguishing the fire while protecting the neighboring homes from the rapidly spreading fire. The fire was extinguished in approximately 30 minutes, with aid from neighboring Fire Departments.

The house where the fire originated had a partial collapse of the second floor, and the neighboring homes both sustained damage in the form of melted vinyl siding. There were no injuries reported.

The house at 2112 Brandywyn, where the fire originated, had been vacant and under repair since a August 2022 fire left the home uninhabitable. That fire was investigated and found to have started from candles left burning in the home.

The cause of this fire remains under investigation.
